Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation-UNESCO Award is presented once every two years to reward outstanding efforts and practices to improve the performance of teachers. It is awarded to three winners from around the world, who provide outstanding educational practice that contribute to improving the performance and effectiveness of teachers in developing countries and least developed and marginalized communities. The  winners are honored at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the 5th of October in conjunction with the celebration of the United Nations of the World Teachers Day.

The Prize value is $300.000, that is equally divided among the three winners, so that each of them receive $100,000, plus shield and certificate of excellence.
